Naga and the Captainess

An interactive sculptural work featuring Naga, the sea serpent, and the Aldrovanda II, a cargo and research vessel, helmed by the mysterious “Captainess.”

When we come across the scene it appears some kind of calamity has occurred. A sinking ship is spilling treasure into the ocean, a sea serpent looms above. Did he sink the ship? Or is he there to help? Who is the Captainess and what treasure did she carry on her ship that Naga is sworn to protect? What will we discover floating in the waves?

Naga is only half the story. We are seeking $200,000 to bring a modified ship to the park. It is both a stand alone artwork and seating area that completes the magic that Naga has started. People already gather all day, often bringing their own chairs, or sitting in the grass, wanting to spend time and become part of the scene.

The Aldrovanda, (pronounced Al-dro-van-da) combines elements of frigates (with a merman maidenhead) and galleons, common in the 1600’s when our story is set.

While not all of the Aldrovanda with it’s tall mast and ornate captain’s quarters can be placed in a public park, Stephanie and Jackie have re-designed the ship for the public and thought of new ways to add details with peepholes to miniature scenes, etc..etc…

Our generous fiscal sponsor is offering to pass through 100$ of tax deductible donations. All budget information, installation costs, maintenance, and timeline information is available upon request. Please reach out to us at Naga.and.thecaptainess@gmail.com
